The New Age

Our Story

In the future when the scene is clear and it seems as if all limitations have been reached, there is often a great change beneath the surface waiting for the time to emerge. That time is Now. We are the New Age.

We hail out of Philadelphia where an underground network of artists, musicians, and dancers still thrive. It's a constant source of inspiration and excitement that keeps us motivated. If you could use one word to describe our music it would be "New".

Our music defined is called Hiptronic Electrohop. It's the combination of hip hop, techno, and a dash of everything else with crisp precise lyrical content that everyone can relate to. We make tunes that create a mood of pure energy.

We just finished our inner-city tour, performing at venues all over Philadelphia. Now we want to venture out in search of new crowds, moods, and ideas. We are constantly rethinking, remixing, and recording our science. Now all that's missing is to be heard outside our comfort zone.

The New Age has officially been signed to IXiiV Records - a hip hop indie label based in both Philadelphia and NYC. Stay tuned for more shows in both cities and be sure to check us out at their various showcases to be held later this spring.

The New Age includes emcee Traverse, DJ C-Sharp, and Grand Master Burner on drums. We also work simultaneously with Surroscape which is our multimedia company that creates polymorphic hypermedia.

Traverse

The self described “warchief” and leader of the New Age Crew, Traverse comes off as pure fire. The front man and lyricist first formed The New Age in 2001 and has not stopped fighting since. When asked when he decided to pursue music as a career, he claims that he’s always known that this was what he wanted to do. He is quoted saying, "Music has always been the one thing that could get me through the many hardships of growing up, so that’s what makes me write the way I do”. His message to the world is that he won’t stop till he’s the best Emcee and will die happily before he fails. Honesty and integrity are among the core values that make him who he is. He describes Success as doing what he loves, and loving what he's doing. His lyrics as he described are “the sum of poverty, sacrifice, and relating to everyone on one level or another”. Traverse has a unique style which he makes up and describes as “New and everything relating to it”. Trained in the art of freestyling, he is a master of word manipulation and pronunciation. He became mainly inspired to be the best in his early childhood days where he was schooled by “big Mike” in what emceeing is all about. Ever since then for Traverse there’s only been “the pursuit of unattainable perfection, where every step but lengthens the goal”.

 

C-Sharp

Since the beginning he has been a leading member of The New Age who maintains focus on keeping the crew moving, while also in his free time launching full scale attacks against what he describes as “whack DJs”. Inspired to pursue a career in DJing and musical production since 2000, He is one DJ who can set any dance floor ablaze with swift blending and scratching skills of various forms of music. Motivated to become a successful musician in the future he doesn’t stop when approaching the goal. You can catch him performing in clubs, bars, weddings, house parties, stores, and everywhere else. And you know when DJ C Sharp is in the house it’s definitely time to party. His style and musical taste reflect European traditions and American alike. He is motivated to spin tunes based on “what the crowd wants”. At a moments notice DJ C-Sharp can turn a quiet room into an erupting culture clash of swirling drunken madness. Spinning everything from Dancehall to pop, hop hip to techno, rock to soul and all forms far and few between it’s gonna be a damn good time when he comes out to play. Many Describe DJ C-Sharp as always maintaining his cool while making decisions, and that reflects his calm and collect personality.

 

GMB

Trained in the art of percussion by his own discipline and other various sources, inspired by his father who is a classically trained jazz musician, and described as being capable of keeping time in any style of music, he is known to all as the Grand Master Burner. “The drum machine” is motivated by the desire to play music whenever, wherever, and with whomever is willing to participate. He is a man who doesn’t hesitate to put family and Jah first. As described in his own words he ascribes to live a life of "love and positivity”. He is a traveled man who has seen and played most American shores, beach towns, desert oasises, skate parks across the states, all the way up into the vastness of the large inner city crowds. His style can only be described as “Rasta”. The GMB finds inspiration in the sounds of the music he loves which are reggae, roots rock, dancehall, hip hop, and punk rock. He is always full of live positive energy and a love for the music he creates. There is no stopping the highly skilled percussionist from igniting the stage with lightning as he strikes the drums time and time again.
